No. 1 seed Benilde-St. Margaret's defeats St. Thomas Academy

Junior Jack VanOverbeke finished with five goals and three assists, including three consecutive goals in a 4:43 span late in the first quarter, to lead the undefeated Red Knights to a 10-3 victory against St. Thomas Academy in the state semifinals Thursday at Minnetonka High School.

First report

Undefeated Benilde-St. Margaret’s, with junior Jack VanOverbeke leading the way, defeated fifth-seeded St. Thomas Academy 10-3 in the state semifinals Thursday at Minnetonka High School.

VanOverbeke finished with five goals and three assists, including three consecutive goals in a 4:43 span late in the first quarter.

Jackson Leischow got the scoring started for the top-seeded Red Knights 1:01 into the game on a shot from the middle of the field.

The Red Knights (18-0), who led 5-2 at jhalftime, broke open the game with three goals in the third quarter. VanOverbeke had an assist on all three. Kalam Storrs and Matt Dowden scored even strength goals and Paddy Burns had a power play tally.

Storrs later scored his second goal of the game with 2:27 left in the game.

The Cadets (15-3) briefly got back in the game in the second quarter with two goals sandwiched around a Red Knights goal. Bjorn Kilen got the Cadets on the board 2:46 into the quarter and Luke Williams scored with 1:59 left. Williams later scored his second goal of the game with 2:55 left in the game.
