Top performer winner

Jessa Snippes, Rosemount. The sophomore took the Irish’s season-opening game into her own hands, taking care of the offense and pitching. The 1-0 Irish victory against Farmington went 11 innings, all of which Snippes pitched. She allowed four hits and one walk while striking out 19 batters. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Snippes connected for a home run to record the game’s only run and earn the walkoff victory.

Top performer candidates

Billi Connell, Luverne. The Cardinals dominated a season-opening doubleheader against Blue Earth Area on April 8, winning the two games by a combined score of 33-7. The junior had a perfect series at the plate, going 4-for-4 in each game. She recorded five doubles and a home run, scoring seven runs and tallying 10 RBIs.

Granger was 8-for-8 through those two games as she recorded eight RBIs and scored five runs. She hit four home runs, two doubles and added a stolen base.

Brynn Hostettler, Northfield. The senior standout opened the season by pitching four scoreless innings in a 10-0 victory against Owatonna on April 8. A week later, Hostettler was locked in a pitchers’ duel against Chanhassen, forcing the game to an extra inning. She pitched eight innings and gave up one hit and one run in the 1-0 loss on April 15. Two nights later, Hostettler pitched a seven-inning no-hitter to record a 9-0 win against Rochester Mayo. Through the three games, Hostettler recorded 50 strikeouts in 19 innings while allowing two hits and one run.

Sydney Schwartz, Chanhassen. The junior pitcher outlasted Northfield’s Brynn Hostettler in a 1-0 eight-inning victory on April 15 as she allowed four hits and one walk while recording 18 strikeouts. Schwartz again took to the circle the next night and nearly delivered another shutout, allowing a single run on three hits as the Storm defeated Minnetonka 8-1. At the plate, Schwartz went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
