Lakeville North broke open the most tense of the boys’ lacrosse state quarterfinals played Tuesday with a fourth-quarter surge.

Brothers Austin and Tyler Winship lived up to their surname, combining to score five of North’s final six goals in a 12-8 upset of No. 2 seed Chanhassen. Austin, a sophomore attackman, tallied four goals in the game. Tyler, a senior, added a pair of scores.

Chanhassen, making its state tournament debut, led 7-6 after three quarters at Stillwater High School. Three Storm players finished with a pair of goals: senior midfielder John Dahl, junior midfielder Brady Grandstaff and sophomore attackman Carter Van Holland. Their production overcame a rare outing without a goal from All-State senior attackman Tyr Christianson.

North’s All-State senior goalie AJ Preachuk stopped eight of 16 shots.

Prior Lake 16, Chisago Lakes 10: Defending champion Prior Lake started its title defense by holding off a determined Chisago Lakes team making its state tournament debut.
The favored Lakers held a 9-5 halftime lead as six different players tallied goals. Their edge increased to 11-6 after three periods on sophomore midfielder Ben Mickett’s third goal of the game.
Chisago Lakes responded with three consecutive goals in the fourth quarter. Junior attackman Jake Willman’s second goal, this one on a power play, trimmed the Wildcats’ deficit to three at 13-10. Willman finished the season with 54 goals.

Stillwater 13, St. Thomas Academy 5: With ample motivation to represent well as tournament host, Stillwater jumped ahead with four goals in the second quarter and maintained control until the final horn.
Nine different Ponies scored, led by two goals each from Tomas Anderson, Carter Bies, Alex Corbett and Tommy Lindeberg. Both Bies and Lindeberg tallied their 25th goals of the season.
Meanwhile, senior goalie Gunner Arens, with 16 saves, and Stillwater’s defense held the Cadets to their third-lowest scoring output this spring.
Stillwater’s only two losses this season came against state tournament qualifiers Chanhassen and Prior Lake.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 17, Moorhead 1: Top-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s did not exactly explode off the starting line. The Red Knights, state tournament runners-up in 2018 and 2019, led just 2-1 after the first quarter.
They kept on the gas pedal from there, tallying 15 unanswered goals against state tournament newcomer Moorhead.
The Red Knights’ five All-State first-team selections looked the part. Senior midfielders Paddy Burns and Jackson Leischow each scored four goals. Senior attackman Matt Dowden struck twice. Senior Braxton Bogen and his defensive mates limited the Spuds’ chances. And senior faceoff specialist Drew Nylander won 13 of 17 draws. Moorhead’s Andrew Searls tied the game about 10 minutes into the first quarter with a goal soon buried under the Red Knights’ stampede.
