Even without one of its top threats, Lakeville South is still going hog wild.

Junior attacker Emily Moes, a 101-point scorer and all-state performer from 2021, is soon to return to the lineup from injury.

Her teammates have handled things just fine in the meantime. The Cougars, ranked No. 2 in the preseason state coaches poll, are owners of two top-five wins in their first two games.

The latest came 11-8 at home Friday over No. 4 Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Senior midfielder Gabby Bouman had a game high six points with a hat trick and three assists. Classmate and position mate, Tori Tschida, tacked on three goals of her own.

First Report

Hat tricks by senior midfielders Gabby Bouman and Tori Tschida led the way for Lakeville South in an 11-8 home win Friday against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

The Cougars (2-0), ranked No. 2 in the preseason state coaches' poll, were without junior all-state attack Emily Moes due to injury, but others stepped up in her absence. Lakeville South opened each half on a 3-0 run and never trailed.

The No. 4 Red Knights (2-1) were led by a game-high four goals from senior midfielder Tilly Wolfe. Sophomore attacker Maggie Graczyk added two goals, including one after she stole the ball and fired it into the net right at the halftime buzzer to make it 6-6 at the break.

Senior goalie Lindsay Wirfs made eight of 16 (.500) saves for Lakeville South. Junior goalie Brooke Nelson made eight of 19 saves (.421) in net for Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
