And the winner is...MN Softball Hub Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Softball Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Madison Hazelton, Winona Cotter. The sophomore pitched in three Rambler road game shutouts last week, starting with a 6-0 win at La Crescent-Hokah on May 2. Hazelton pitched seven perfect innings and recorded 11 strikeouts. On May 5, the Ramblers played a doubleheader at Caledonia/Spring Grove. Hazelton pitched in nine innings between the two games, allowing one hit and striking out 23 batters total between the 6-0 and 10-0 victories.

Top performer candidates

Cameron Chard, Belle Plaine. The Tigers played in two doubleheaders last week and were led on offense by the sophomore’s 12 RBIs and at least one home run in nearly every game. The Tigers defeated Mayer Lutheran 13-2 and 14-4 on May 3. Chard went 5-for-6 in those games. She hit four home runs, a double and recording eight RBIs. On May 5, the Tigers defeated Norwood Young America 6-1 and 10-1 as Chard went 4-for-7, including hitting her fourth home run of the week and four RBIs.

Kylie Gaston, St. Michael-Albertville. The sophomore accounted for nearly half of the Knights’ 15 runs in their win against Edina on May 5. Gaston had a standout 4-for-4 game, hitting two doubles, a home run and tallying seven RBIs. She scored three runs as the Knights won 15-3.

Maddy Walsh, Proctor. The junior pitcher had an impressive week both in the circle and at the plate. The Rails churned out five wins in five games as Walsh pitched in each game, racking up double-digit strikeouts in each win. Between the five games, Walsh totaled 30 innings, giving up 10 hits and walking 10 batters while accumulating 60 strikeouts. Walsh started the week with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, hitting two home runs and tallying six RBIs in the Rails’ 11-0 rout of Bemidji. She added five hits and eight RBIs the remaining four games of the week.

Kaitlyn Way, Blaine. The junior hit home runs in half of her at-bats during wins against Coon Rapids and Maple Grove last week. At Coon Rapids on May 2, Way went 3-for-4 with a single and two home runs, and she tallied five RBIs as the Bengals won 12-2. Against Maple Grove on May 3, Way went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs as the Bengals won earn an 11-7 victory.
