Section 3 boys championship: Woodbury takes down St. Thomas Academy

The Royals poured on the late goals to take the victory over the Cadets and make their first state tournament appearance.

A high school student section loves a good theme. The aesthetic for the Section 3 championship was “Let’s go fishing.”

The Royals were ready to reel in their prize catch.

Woodbury is on to the state tournament for the first time in program history by knocking off two-time defending section champion, St. Thomas Academy, 10-6.

First Report

Woodbury is heading to the state tournament for the first time in program history.

The top-seeded Royals are Section 3 champions after a 10-6 win over No. 3 St. Thomas Academy.

Woodbury (14-2) was led by a pair of goals by Conor Hooley and Marshal Myers-Beck. Evan Hermann made 13 of 19 saves (.684).

The Cadets (9-6) were led by a hat trick by Adam Husaby and a goal and two assists by Matt Hudson. Gabe Meisterling made 10 of 20 saves (.500).

Woodbury led by one after three quarters before pulling away in the final 12 minutes.
