Lakeville South's Emily Moes and Benilde-St. Margaret's Brooke Nelson capped their final high school seasons by bringing home two of the state's most prestigious honors.

The Minnesota All Sports Alliance (MASA) announced at a banquet on June 18 that Moes was named Ms. Lacrosse and Nelson won the Jake Anderson Ms. Goalie award for 2023 season. 

The Ms. Lacrosse award is given to the "most outstanding senior lacrosse player in the state," while the Jake Anderson Ms. Goaltender award is given to the best senior goaltender in the state. The voting panel for the awards includes high school and college coaches, and select members the state's lacrosse community, according to the MASA website. 

Moes led the state in goals (81) and points (128), and helped keep the Cougars undefeated through the regular season and into the postseason. Lakeville South ended its perfect season with a 14-13 defeat in the Class 1A semifinals to eventual state champion Benilde-St. Margaret's.

Moes was one of seven student-athletes who were named finalists for the Ms. Lacrosse award. The others were Gabby Bouman (Lakeville South), Ellie Morrison (Blake), Katie Sikorski (Wayzata), Rachel Ward (Prior Lake) and Nicola Santoni and Mary Velner (both from Edina).

Nelson helped lead the Red Knight's to the program's first championship game and state title. She finished the season with a .566 save percentage — tops in the state for goalies who played at least 770 minutes — and a 17-2 overall record. Her 17 victories were the second-most in the state behind Lakeville South's Kate Bell (18).

Nelson was one of two finalists for the Ms. Goaltender award. Edina's Uma Corniea was the other.
