Q & A with high-scoring Ponies standout Dana Almquist

What lacrosse position do you play? I play attack.

How long have you been playing lacrosse? This will be my seventh season.

Stillwater made the state tournament last spring. What did that do for the program? Getting to state was really big. Our team has gotten better every year. It was a huge accomplishment.

The team lost a lot of scorers to graduation. Can you replace them? We have a lot of good scorers coming up. They can step up. They didn't get the chance last year because we had a lot of seniors.

Do you play lacrosse outside of the high school season? Yes. I played on a summer team last year with our coach [Rick Reidt]. We played in a tournament in Virginia.

Lacrosse is big on the East Coast. How did you do? I think we played well, but we were on the lower end of the skill level. We didn't win, but we knew that would happen. It was a good experience for us.

What do you like about lacrosse? I play hockey too, and it's very siimilar. Being a hockey player, I'm really physical. It helps, but I get [penalties] sometimes. I try not to, but it happens.

A small but important tip: I always make sure my stick is tight so it's legal when the referees check it. I practice with it that way.
