Maple Grove's David Corazalla sets team scoring marks

Though his team fell short of this week’s lacrosse state tournament, Maple Grove senior attackman David Corazalla reached several milestones.

Corazalla, a coaches’ association all-state and All-America recipient, recorded his 200th career point on 61 goals and 13 assists this season. He holds the Crimson single-game record with eight goals and his 61 goals and 74 points are new single-season records.

Corazalla will play lacrosse at Lindenwood University in Missouri.

Mounds View returns to state in baseball

Mounds View qualified for its first Class 3A state baseball tournament since 2000, earned the No. 4 seed and begins play at 12:30 p.m. Thursday against No. 5 seed Forest Lake at Midway Stadium.

The Mustangs (17-6) and Rangers (18-5), both in the Suburban East Conference, played a doubleheader May 10. Mounds View swept, winning 4-1 and 3-2.

Statistical leaders for the Mustangs this season include Austin Smestad (.435 batting average and 27 hits), Sam Hentges (six home runs, 15 RBI) and pitcher Max Knutson (4-1 record, 61 strikeouts and a 0.73 ERA).

Girls’ lacrosse all-state game set

The state’s top 44 players as selected by the girls’ lacrosse coaches association will square off in a showcase game starting at 6:30 p.m. on June 18 at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul.

Two north-metro players, Mari Verbeten of Robbinsdale Armstrong and Sammi DeJoy of Coon Rapids, will take part. The game is free to the public.

Park Center boys’ hoops camp

Boys’ basketball players grades K-8 can sign up for the Park Center camp being held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 24-28 at the high school.

Pirates varsity coach Bo Powell and his staff will introduce basketball fundamentals such as ballhandling, shooting and footwork along with offensive and defensive strategies.

Players will also participate in games, scrimmages and contests. There will also be a half-hour book club each day.

Campers can sign up through Brooklyn Park Recreation, The cost is $75 and that includes a camp T-shirt and lunch.
