Just a few weeks ago Bloomington Jefferson was one of the featured teams in the No. 1 Game of the Week, an intriguing early season showdown with longtime South Suburban Conference power Eastview.
The Jaguars acquitted themselves quite well in that April 19 matchup, using a big third quarter to pull away from the Lightning, state champs in 2012 and runner-up last year, en route to the 11-9 victory.
Here we go with Bloomington Jefferson again playing one of the lead roles in the top game of the week. The Jaguars are now 3-0, having also defeated solid Edina and Burnsville squads.
The opponent this week is another longtime (in the short history of state lacrosse, anyway) South Suburban power in Eagan.
While the Jaguars have been a model of consistency in their three games, the Wildcats have been all over the map. Eagan’s three victories to start the season impressed the state’s coaches enough to vault the Wildcats to No. 1 in their weekly poll. Since then, however, Eagan has lost to Apple Valley and Rosemount in succession.
Despite Eagan’s recent mini-swoon, we expect a hotly contested matchup Tuesday in Eagan (weather permitting, of course).
