Boys’ lacrosse championship
No. 3 White Bear Lake vs. No. 1 Bloomington Jefferson
7 p.m., Minnetonka High School
Why White Bear Lake will win: The Bears are coming off an emotional overtime victory against two-time defending champion Eden Prairie. Behind the sharpshooting of Shane Oleson, they showed that they can overcome a large deficit and come back to win a big game.
Why Bloomington Jefferson will win: Thursday’s semifinal against Lakeville North was over shortly after the second quarter began. The Jaguars scored 11 unanswered goals en route to a blowout victory to send them to the final. The Jaguars not only boast top-notch scorers like Ryan Graff and Malik Ekpenyong, but also have goalie Connor Norberg making highlight-reel saves lately.
Key to watch: White Bear Lake’s start. Before Oleson propelled his team to an overtime victory against Eden Prairie, the Bears were down by five goals early. If they do the same against Bloomington Jefferson, another late comeback could be hard to come by.
Did you know? This is top-seeded Bloomington Jefferson’s first state tournament.
