Edina climbed to No. 1 in the coaches' rankings midway through the season propelled by the play of a powerful offense and stingy defense.
As a result, the Hornets led all high school programs with four players selected to the 2016 boys' lacrosse all-state teams, which were released this week by the state high school coaches association.
Goalie Patrick Jackson, who guided Edina to a Lake Conference championship, was named to the first team. The senior finished the regular season with a 12-1 record, a 5.55 goals-against average and a .713 save percentage.
Midfielder John Marple (24 goals, 7 assists) was named to the second team selection while attackman AJ Nelson (14 G, 26 A) and defenseman Jack Foley, who had a team-high 19 takeaways and 42 ground balls, were selected to the third team. All three played key roles in helping Edina finish with a 12-1 regular-season record and earn the No. 2 seed in the Section 6 playoffs.
Eden Prairie, Woodbury, Rosemount and Blake each had three players selected to the teams.
