Brandon Wuertz helped lead Eagan to its first state title in three finals appearances, posting 11 goals and five assists in three tournament games, and the attacker was among five Wildcats to make the 2017 Minnesota State Boys' Lacrosse All-Tournament Team. The 12-member team was selected by a panel coaches who attended the tournament.
Wuertz scored three goals and set up three more in Eagan’s 19-12 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the champion game, and he was equally effective in front of the goal in the regular season, finishing with a team-high 50 goals in the regular season.
The other Wildcats selected were midfielders Cole Powell, Darby Sorensen, Joseph Hofmann and goalie John Courington.
Powell tallied four goals and five assists, Sorensen scored six goals and Hofmann had three assists in three tournament games.
Courington played a big role in net, continuing his solid form from the regular season by stopping 53 percent of the shots he faced at state.
