Senior goalkeeper to be part of inaugural Augustana team

Josh Wielenga

Apple Valley boys’ lacrosse goalkeeper senior Josh Wielenga will help get another lacrosse program started when he heads to Augustana in the fall.

The Vikings program will be in its first year of collegiate competition. Wielenga plans on majoring in biochemistry. He was also a diver on the Eagles’ swimming team. Here is a closer look at Wielenga:

The best movie I’ve seen in the past year? “Tron: Legacy.”

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are? “Makes Me Wanna Die” by The Pretty Reckless; “Welcome to the Family” by Avenged Sevenfold; “Feed the Machine” by Red.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … that I needed to prove myself because I was a freshman. I felt like I needed to show them what I had to offer to the team. I also felt a little nervous because I had never played a varsity sport before.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete so far? I would have to say that diving at the U of M was a memorable experience in and of itself. I got to dive off of the platforms for a camp I did and it was an adrenaline rush that I hadn’t experienced before.

What are your goals for the 2010-11 school year as an athlete? My goals for this year are to step up into the shoes that were left by our goalie last year when he graduated. Another is to do my part for the team and show my support for them like they show for me.

In 10 years, I hope I’m … a forensic scientist of some type. If I am not doing that, then I’d possibly hope to be in SWAT or in the police department. I want to do some kind of correctional work or be in the police force.
