Sauk Centre holds off Roseau charge, wins 2A championship

The Mainstreeters defeated the defending champions 63-52 after the Rams rallied from 21 points down in the second half and pulled within three points.

Sauk Centre built a big second-half lead, saw it dwindle to just three points, then held on to defeat Roseau 63-52 in the Class 2A championship game.

The Mainstreeters capped a perfect season (33-0) with its first state championship. They had finished as runners-up in 2015 and last season, when they lost to Roseau in the finals.

The Peschel sisters, Tori and Kelsey, scored 18 points each and Maesyn Thiesen added 17 for Sauk Centre, which closed out the game by making 8 of 10 free throws in the final minutes.

Roseau (26-6) got 15 points from Kacie Borowicz and 11 from Emma Waling.
