With a forecast calling for snow and high winds, a day-long five-game showcase planned for Saturday at The Blake School was scrapped for this year.

Plans for the first Lacrosse Day Minnesota — a day-long, five-game showcase celebrating the sport — took everything into consideration except one thing:

The winter that would not end.

“Due to unplayable forecasted weather conditions we are canceling the Lacrosse Day MN Event on Saturday,’’ Blake Athletic Director Nick Rathmann wrote in an e-mail Wednesday. “Current forecast calls for a high of 30 degrees, high winds, and snow starting at 9 a.m. All games are off.’’

Plans had called for three games between high school boys’ teams and one between girls’ teams, as well as a game between collegiate men’s club teams at the Blake School’s Gordy Aamoth Memorial Stadium in Hopkins.

“Teams will be making their own arrangements for rescheduling.’’ Rathmann wrote. “We do plan on attempting this event again next year. More on that down the road.’’

After thanking those who helped put the event together, Rathmann signed off in a manner that speaks for a lot of Minnesotans these days.

“This. Spring. Ughh.’’
