After a slow start by both teams, seven Irish players tallied goals as Rosemount opened its season on a high note with a 9-4 win over Bloomington Jefferson on Thursday at the Savage Dome.
The Irish (1-0) struck first courtesy of junior attack Thomas Purfeerst. After taking the lead, Rosemount never looked back, opening its lead to 3-0 after two quarters.
The Jaguars (0-1) didn’t scratch the scoreboard until early in the second half when senior attack Blake Camuel got Bloomington Jefferson’s first goal of the season. He led the way for the Jaguars, finishing with a pair of goals.
Despite the Jaguars’ best efforts, the Irish countered any Bloomington Jefferson rally. This included strong offensive output from junior middle Luke Majewski and junior defenseman Evan Lilga. Each player tallied a pair of goals in the win for Rosemount.
The Irish were able to limit the Jaguars’ offense with strong play from their defense and sophomore goalie Landon Merigold, who made 10 saves in the win. His counterpart, Jake McCarthy, finished with nine saves.
