First Report

Chanhassen opened its season in a big way on Thursday night, defeating defending state champion Eagan 15-8 in convincing fashion at Chanhassen High School.

The Storm (1-0) built a seven-goal lead in the first half. Chanhassen’s offense was fueled by the combination of seniors Cole Grindberg and Jadon Kerry, who combined for seven goals in the opening half. Kerry, an attackman and Duke commit, finished with a game-high five goals in the win while Grindberg finished with four.

In the second half, the Storm maintained their stranglehold on the Wildcats with a strong defensive effort. Chanhassen senior goalie Parker Woolf stopped 14 shots in a winning effort.

Eagan (0-1) could not overcome the Storm’s potent offense despite senior attackman Isaac Peifer’s effort. He led the Wildcats with three goals and an assist.

Chanhassen’s lead never dwindled below five but the Wildcats were able to tame the Storm offense in the second half.

Eagan senior goalie John Courington stopped nine shots in a losing effort.
