Girls: Eagan/Rosemount stuns Lakeville North

No. 7-seeded Wild Irish score five goals in final 5 minutes to upset No. 2 Panthers

The No. 7-seeded Eagan/Rosemount girls scored five goals in the final 4 minutes, 45 seconds –– including two in the last 35 seconds –– as it rallied from a four-goal deficit to stun No. 2 Lakeville North 9-8 on Wednesday, May 25, in the quarterfinals of the Section 3 playoffs.

Simone Haugen scored with 15 seconds remaining to secure the victory for the Wild Irish, who trailed 7-3 with just less than 17 minutes remaining in the second half.

Eagan/Rosemount’s Lisa Crow scored the tying goal on a free shot with 35 seconds left. The Wild Irish also scored with 3:07 and 2:44 remaining.

Haugen finished with two goals, and teammates Abi Rodstein and Cassie Miller scored two each.

Lakeville North, the defending section champion, defeated Eagan/Rosemount 12-11 in overtime during the regular season. The Panthers, who start mostly freshmen and sophomores, finish with a 9-6 record.

Eagan/Rosemount went 6-6 during the regular season, when Haugen, a junior, led the state with 67 goals. The Wild Irish (8-6) play No. 3-seeded Apple Valley in the section semifinals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, at Apple Valley High School.
