The pairings for the girls' lacrosse state tournament were announced on Friday, and the field should provide plenty of drama with several heavyweights contending for the title.

Eden Prairie, which was ranked No. 2 in the final coaches' poll of the season, earned the top seed and is looking for its fourth consecutive state championship.

Apple Valley grabbed the No. 2 seed after knocking off rival Prior Lake on Thursday in the Section 6 final to advance to their first state tournament since 2014. The victory also avenged an 11-10 loss to the No. 1-ranked Lakers in a regular-season showdown.

Blake has won six state championships and vies for a seventh as a No. 3 seed. The Bears open tournament play against Minnehaha Academy, which is in the state tournament for the first time in school history.

The Redhawks and Apple Valley are two of the three teams that are in this year's tournament after not making it a season ago. Lakeville North is the other, and the No. 4-seeded Panthers are back for the first time since upsetting Eden Prairie in the state semifinals en route to a second-place finish in 2013.

The quarterfinals begin Tuesday at Minnetonka High School. The rest of the championship bracket game are at Chanhassen High School.
