Eden Prairie routs in Lakeville North in weather-shortened semifinal

The three-time defending state champion Eagles (16-2) are back in the title game, prevailing in a weather-shortened semifinal round game over the Panthers (14-3) at Chanhassen High School.

 The game was called with under seven minutes remaining after lightning was spotted in the area.

The top-seeded Eagles controlled the majority of the game. Maggie Brown put the Eagles ahead for good 6:30 into the game. They went on to score seven consecutive goals in a 14:18 span in the first half.

“We had no holding back this game,” junior Brooke Lewis said. “Sometimes we stall a little bit. We wanted to keep pushing and show that we deserved to win this.”

Two-time defending state champion Eden Prairie is back in the title game after defeating Lakeville North 18-3 on Thursday in a weather-shortened semifinal round game of the girls’ lacrosse state tournament at Chanhassen High School.

The game was called with 18:24 left in the 25-minute second half of the game after lightning was spotted in the area.

The top-seeded Eagles controlled the majority of the game. Maggie Brown put the Eagles ahead for good 6:30 into the game. They went on to score seven consecutive goals in a 14:18 span in the first half.

Abby Johnson and Maggie Brown had two goals each during the barrage. Alyce Holtan, C.J. Froemming and Kacie Riggs also scored to help the Eagles pull away from the Panthers.

Johnson and Brown finished the game with five goals each, Brooke Lewis had three and Holtan and Froemming had two each.

The fourth-seeded Panthers momentarily stopped the onslaught with 1:41 left to play in the first half on a goal from Abby Schaefer. The Panthers had a brief lead after Chloe Fisher scored the game’s first goal at the 1:51 mark.

Brown scored her first goal 36 seconds later to get the Eagles on the board. Johnson scored about two minutes later to give the Eagles their first lead. Paige Bonjean tied the game at 2-2 at the 5:18 mark of the first period.
